About this resource: The Catholic Multicultural Center provides ‘English as a Second Language’ classes. They offer English classes for beginners through intermediate learners. To participate, students may come during any weekday class period to register and take an assessment, so they are able to be placed in the appropriate class. Childcare is provided.

Who can use this resource? Anyone!

Next Steps:

  • Classes at the Catholic Multicultural Center are taught Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, 11:00-12:30 pm are for beginners.  On Tuesday and Thursday, 10:00-11:30 is for intermediates. At their Fitchburg location, they have classes Monday & Wednesday 6-7:30 pm (CMC West 5256 Verona Rd, Fitchburg). You can stop by to register in person anytime before, during, or after class to register and take an assessment test.

About this resource: The Literacy Network offers free English classes and tutoring services to low-income individuals who live permanently in the U.S. While the classes are free, you will have to pay for program material, ranging from $10, $ 20, or $40, depending on the class. Scholarships are available. 

Who can use this resource? Low-income individuals who live permanently in the U.S.

About this resource: Madison Area Technical College offers tuition-free English classes at all levels and skills. Classes are offered at various times in Madison at the Truax or Goodman South campus or regionally in Reedsburg, Portage, Watertown, and Fort Atkinson.

Who can use this resource? You must be a current WI resident and have lived in WI for 6 months, at least 18 years old, and NOT under a temporary visa.

Next Steps:

  • ​Head to the website to create a new student account

  • Take an ESL test online through the website OR in-person at the Goodman South Campus

  • Based on test results, sign up for the recommended skill level class at your desired location.
