About this resource: Housing Navigation Services provides a list of housing vacancies in Dane County. The list is updated weekly, each list is organized according to unit size, rent and location. By compiling this information, these vacancy lists empower those in search of housing to focus their energy on the vital next step in their search for a new home: Contacting the landlord, rental agency, or management company in charge of renting that property. 

This resource should be used for people who have enough income to earn around 2.5-3 times the rent price listed. If people are on a fixed income (most often this is disability or retirement income) and need to have low rent housing then you should work through the subsidized housing resource listed below.

About:

  • Provides low-cost, not-for-profit cooperative housing for very low- to moderate income people and to be inclusive of underrepresented and marginalized groups.

Co-op Model:

  • MCC is a non-profit community cooperative, with a shared equity model. Members pay only a security deposit plus monthly rent and food costs, and control operations of their house and of MCC through direct democracy and a board of directors. Each of the eleven houses has between seven and thirty-one bedrooms, each rented privately by a member or members, and commons spaces shared by everyone who lives in the house: kitchens, living rooms, bathrooms, yards, etc. Members pay monthly rent and food costs, and share the responsibilities of maintaining a house, like shopping, cleaning, cooking, and paying bills

​​Rent:

  • The cost of room and board varies by location, size, and features of each room. The average cost per month is $535 including room, board, and utilities.
