Single Women's Shelter// Salvation Army

About this resource: The Single Women’s Shelter is for women experiencing homelessness. The Women’s Shelter provides temporary nighttime-only shelter to single homeless women (age 18 or older) and may accommodate up to 45 women per night. An individual’s stay is limited to 90 nights per year and case management is available. Residents are provided meals and have access to shower/laundry facilities.

Who can use this resource? Single women (age 18 and older) experiencing homeless

Next Steps:

  • Sign-in is at 4:30 PM each day.

    • If a woman is working at the time of sign-in, she may call to reserve a bed at (608) 250-2226 by 4:30 PM. Proof of employment may be required.

  • All women exit shelter by 8:00 AM every morning.

The Elizabeth House

About this resource: The Elizabeth House is a goal oriented residential maternity and parenting program that supports pregnant women. Most residents stay at The Elizabeth House for 6-12 months, during and immediately following their pregnancy, and many receive ongoing support after that time. **THIS IS NOT AN EMERGENCY SHELTER**

 

Who can use this resource? Pregnant homeless single women, ages 18+. They accept first time pregnant women, women who have just given birth, and expectant mothers with a child up to the age of two.

Third Street // YWCA

About this resource: Third Street, located on the third and fourth floors at the downtown YWCA Madison location, provides affordable apartments, a safe neighborhood for families, and support services. The program serves single moms with one or two children, from birth to four years old, or women in their last trimester of pregnancy.

Who can use this resource? Single moms with one or two children, from birth to four years old, or women in their last trimester of pregnancy.

Next Steps:

  • Call (608) 257-1436, Option 2 at the beginning of the month to see if they are accepting applications.

    • They will screen two years of housing history, professional references, and criminal background. Also, must complete section 42 paperwork with applicants. This is to verify income and assets.

YWCA Single Women Housing 

Phone: (608) 257-1436

About this resource: YWCA offers affordable apartments for low-income women, providing a safe and supportive permanent home in the heart of Madison. Apartments are available to women who make less than $42,180 per year. Rent ranges from $420-$785 per month depending on the size of the room. A food and personal care pantry are available for residents.

Who can use this resource? Women over the age of 18 who meet the income requirements

St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Elizabeth House // St. Vincent de Paul

About this resource: St. Elizabeth Ann Seton House Transitional Housing program provides case management and temporary housing for single women ad single mothers with young children. The goal of this program is to assist clients in transitioning to permanent living environments. Individuals may stay in this program for up to two years. A monthly fee is required.

Who can use this resource? Single women and single mothers with minor children ages 0-12
