About:

Helps people in need of short-term financial assistance due to loss of employment, illness, injury, accident, etc. Aid is for crisis situations, not recurring or chronic needs. Can be eligible for assistance with utilities, but always with a negotiated payment plan with utility company.

How to Receive Aid:

  • First need to call to determine eligibility.

  • Questions they will ask include:

    • Does the applicant live within our service area? If outside of church, only serve “western Dane County” (from John Nolen Drive west). If affiliated with HPC (members, regular attenders and refugees assigned to or being case managed to HPC) there are no fixed geographic or financial limits.

    • Is their need the kind we can help with?

    • Have we helped them within the last 12 months?

 

Once determined eligible, a 45-minute Monday appointment is set up with the Benevolent Fund coordinator. Need to fill out 2-page application form prior to appointment since BF coordinator reviews the application during the appointment. If/after short-term financial aid is given, the Benevolent Fund coordinator will stay connected via follow-up call & email—often for case management, counseling, and divorce care.
